3Commas vs unCoded: An Honest Crypto Trading Bot Comparison for 2026

By Felix Götz – Co-Founder and CTO of ArrowTrade AG, building unCoded since 2016 in crypto trading.

Disclosure: I'm Co-Founder and CTO of ArrowTrade AG, the company behind unCoded – one of the two platforms compared in this article. I was a paying Cryptohopper user for five years before building unCoded. This comparison is based on direct experience and publicly verifiable information. Verify current pricing on official sites: 3commas.io/pricing and uncoded.ch. This is not financial advice.

If you're researching which crypto trading bot to commit your capital to in 2026, 3Commas is probably already on your shortlist. It's one of the most established platforms in the retail space, with years of operation, broad exchange coverage, and a polished product. For many traders, it's the default first consideration.

unCoded sits in a different category. Self-hosted instead of cloud-hosted. Profit-sharing instead of subscription-based. Built for traders who have outgrown template-driven platforms and want strategy depth that subscription products typically don't reach.

This isn't a "we're better than them" article. 3Commas is genuinely good at what it does. The honest answer depends entirely on what you actually need.

Here's the comparison without affiliate spin or marketing exaggeration.

Quick verdict for scanners

Choose 3Commas if: You want hosted automation with broad multi-exchange coverage, polished mobile experience, strong TradingView Signal Bot integration, and you prefer subscription pricing where the math works on your portfolio size.

Choose unCoded if: You want self-hosted custody with profit-sharing pricing (zero fees in losing months), control over your own API keys, tick-based execution, and strategy depth beyond template-based products. Best suited for serious Binance Spot traders.

Choose neither if: You're a complete beginner with no trading experience. Start with Pionex's free exchange-native bots first, validate that automated trading fits your discipline, then move to a serious platform.

What 3Commas is in 2026

3Commas is a cloud-hosted, non-custodial platform operating since 2017. It serves as one of the most established commercial systems in the retail market, with subscription tiers, broad exchange coverage, and a mature feature set.

Core capabilities:

  • DCA Bot for dollar-cost averaging strategies

  • Grid Bot for sideways market profit extraction

  • Signal Bot accepting TradingView alerts, PineScript, Python scripts, and custom webhooks

  • SmartTrade terminal for advanced manual trading

  • Strategy marketplace with community-developed configurations

  • AI Assistant for conversational strategy building

  • Mobile app with strong feature parity to desktop

Custody: Cloud-hosted. API keys stored on 3Commas infrastructure with no fund custody (the platform cannot withdraw your funds, but credentials are stored on their servers).

Pricing: Multiple subscription tiers with annual billing discounts. Current pricing should be verified at 3commas.io/pricing as plans are updated periodically.

What 3Commas does well

For traders who want polished hosted automation without managing infrastructure, 3Commas is genuinely one of the better options.

The Signal Bot integration is the strongest of its kind in the retail space. If you develop strategies on TradingView and need a clean execution layer, 3Commas accepts PineScript output, Python scripts, custom webhooks, and IFTTT-style automation. This makes it function as a flexible execution engine rather than a closed strategy system.

The SmartTrade terminal handles advanced manual trading better than most competitors. Trailing stops, take profits, and conditional logic that exceed what most exchanges offer natively.

The mobile app matters more than people admit. If you monitor deployments from a phone during the workday, the 3Commas experience is among the most refined in the industry.

The AI Assistant feature lets you describe strategies in plain English and generates backtests. For onboarding less technical users, this is a meaningful improvement over starting from scratch.

The strategy marketplace gives access to community-developed configurations without building from zero. Quality varies wildly, but the variety is real.

Where 3Commas falls short

Three structural limitations that matter for serious traders.

Cloud-hosted custody. API keys are stored on 3Commas infrastructure. This isn't unique to 3Commas – nearly all hosted platforms work this way – but it's a structural concern that self-hosted alternatives don't have. The retail industry has seen multiple publicly reported incidents over the years involving compromised user credentials on cloud-hosted services.

Strategy depth ceiling. DCA, Grid, and Signal bots are configurable but not deeply customizable. If you've outgrown template-based products and want signal-based custom logic with sophisticated entry/exit conditions, multi-level position sizing, or time-based profit curves, you'll hit limits.

Subscription pricing math on smaller portfolios. Fixed monthly fees become structural drag. The platform charges in losing years, flat years, and great years equally. A subscription that worked during a bull market produces the same fee during a difficult market regime that broke most strategies.

What unCoded is in 2026

unCoded is a self-hosted, non-custodial crypto trading bot built on a different foundational principle: the platform only earns revenue when users actually generate profit.

Core capabilities:

  • Buy Splits across up to 7 independent levels per position

  • Sell Time Curves that adjust profit targets based on position age

  • Per-split trailing stops independently configured per entry level

  • Micro-Trading with hard stop losses for fast-moving conditions

  • Signal Editor with 152 technical indicators and full boolean logic

  • Tick-based execution processing every order book movement

  • Multi-chart backtesting against the entire Binance Spot market

  • Conservative defaults (canBuyDown=false, mandatory stops, exposure caps)

Custody: Self-hosted on user's VPS via CapRover one-click installation. API keys never leave user infrastructure. Even a complete compromise of unCoded servers cannot affect user exchange accounts because credentials were never stored there.

Pricing: Profit-sharing only. 30% of generated profits, dropping permanently to 20% after $2,000 in cumulative fees. No monthly subscription. Bad months cost zero.

Exchange coverage: Binance Spot live in production. 16 additional major exchanges in internal alpha testing with no firm release timelines.

What unCoded does well

The pricing structure is the most fundamental differentiator from any subscription-based competitor. The platform only makes money when users actually profit, which structurally aligns product decisions with user outcomes over time.

Self-hosted custody eliminates the entire cloud-platform security risk category. Your API keys never leave your VPS. The platform cannot be a single point of failure for your exchange account security.

Tick-based execution processes every order book movement in real time. Most retail systems poll the exchange at intervals between 30 seconds and 5 minutes, which creates blind spots where stop losses miss wicks and take profits trigger late. Tick-based architecture enables strategies that polling-based platforms cannot reliably execute.

Strategy depth exceeds what template-based products reach. Buy Splits across 7 independent levels per position. Sell Time Curves that adjust profit targets as positions age. Per-split trailing stops configured independently. This isn't variety for marketing purposes – each capability exists because real bot trading requires it in specific market regimes.

Honest backtesting against the entire Binance Spot market simultaneously. 1-second base data with intracandle evaluation. Fee calculation in the actual asset fees are paid in. The full distribution of results is published publicly, including years where strategies failed on the majority of tokens.

Conservative defaults protect capital. canBuyDown=false prevents the worst behavior a DCA strategy can exhibit in a crash – blindly buying down until capital is exhausted. Aggressive defaults produce better marketing backtests and destroy capital in unexpected conditions.

Where unCoded falls short (honest disqualifiers)

This matters more than the previous section. Several categories of users should not use unCoded.

Not for users who don't want to manage a VPS. Self-hosting requires renting a server, installing CapRover, configuring API keys with appropriate permissions, and monitoring the deployment. This is real operational responsibility. If you want zero infrastructure work, hosted options like 3Commas exist for that reason.

Currently only Binance Spot in production. If you trade on Coinbase, Kraken, or other major exchanges, unCoded cannot serve you yet. The 16 exchanges in internal alpha will release when each is genuinely production-ready, not when marketing pressure demands.

No copy trading, no marketplace strategies. Strategy understanding is a prerequisite in our model. If you specifically want to follow signal providers or deploy community-developed configurations, 3Commas serves that use case better.

No mobile app of comparable polish to 3Commas. unCoded has web access that works on mobile browsers, but the dedicated mobile experience doesn't match 3Commas' app refinement.

Not for leverage traders. Spot only. Margin and futures amplify both gains and losses, with liquidation risk during volatile phases that can destroy accounts in hours. We won't give up that safety property.

Not for complete beginners. Bots automate strategy execution but don't replace strategy development. Beginners should learn markets first, trade manually, then automate – not the reverse.

Not for set-and-forget users. Active monitoring is required. Platforms promising autopilot wealth are misleading – we say so openly even though it costs us users who'd prefer the lie.

Head-to-head: where each platform wins

The dimensions that actually differ when choosing between these two:

Pricing alignment with outcomes.unCoded wins clearly. Bad months cost zero on profit-sharing. Subscription platforms charge the same fee regardless of trading results.

Custody control.unCoded wins clearly. Self-hosted credentials remove an entire failure category. Cloud-hosted alternatives require trusting platform infrastructure security.

Execution architecture.unCoded wins clearly. Tick-based processing handles fast markets better than polling-based systems.

Strategy depth.unCoded wins. Buy Splits, Sell Time Curves, per-split trailing stops, Signal Editor with 152 indicators – these capabilities exceed template-based products.

Backtest honesty.unCoded wins. Multi-chart testing against the entire Binance Spot market with published distributions including bad years.

Multi-exchange coverage.3Commas wins clearly. If you trade across Coinbase, Kraken, OKX, Bybit, KuCoin, or other major exchanges, 3Commas serves you today. unCoded's multi-exchange support is in internal alpha.

Mobile experience.3Commas wins clearly. More refined dedicated mobile app.

Signal Bot and TradingView integration.3Commas wins clearly. PineScript, Python, custom webhooks, and IFTTT-style automation are better supported.

SmartTrade manual trading terminal.3Commas wins. unCoded is focused on automated execution, not advanced manual trading.

Strategy marketplace and copy trading.3Commas wins. unCoded has neither and won't add either – strategy understanding is structural to our model.

Onboarding ease for non-technical users.3Commas wins. Cloud setup is faster than VPS deployment, AI Assistant helps beginners build their first configurations.

Operational stability track record.Roughly tied. Both have multi-year continuous operation.

Setup friction.3Commas wins on initial setup time. unCoded requires more upfront work (VPS rental, CapRover installation, API key configuration) – which is the intentional cost of self-hosted custody.

Leaderboard summary

The honest scorecard:

  • unCoded wins on:

Pricing alignment, custody control, execution architecture, strategy depth, backtest honesty

  • 3Commas wins on:

Multi-exchange coverage, mobile experience, TradingView integration, manual trading terminal, strategy marketplace, onboarding ease, setup friction

  • Roughly tied on:

    Operational stability track record

The split isn't about one being objectively better. It's about which dimensions matter more for your specific situation. unCoded wins on architectural and pricing fundamentals. 3Commas wins on breadth, polish, and ease of entry.

The pricing math compared

The most concrete difference between these two platforms shows up in long-term economics.

Important: The following uses a hypothetical 15% annual gross return for illustration only. Actual results vary significantly and may be negative. Past performance and backtest data are not indicative of future results.

Hypothetical illustration: small portfolio of $10,000

3Commas: Subscription tier required for serious usage typically runs in the $30-80/month range depending on tier needed. Annual cost roughly $400-960 regardless of trading results. On a hypothetical $1,500 annual gross profit at 15% return, that's roughly 27-64% of gross profit consumed by subscription fees alone.

unCoded: 30% of $1,500 = $450 in a profitable year. $0 in an unprofitable year. The fee scales directly with what the bot actually generates.

Hypothetical illustration: mid-sized portfolio of $50,000

3Commas: Same annual subscription cost roughly $400-960 regardless of portfolio size or trading results. On a hypothetical $7,500 annual gross profit at 15% return, that's roughly 5-13% of gross profit consumed.

unCoded: $2,167 in year one (30% on first $6,667 of cumulative profit, 20% on the remaining $833). Approximately $1,500 from year two onwards at the same return level (flat 20% rate after threshold crossed). Zero in unprofitable years.

Hypothetical illustration: larger portfolio of $200,000

3Commas: Same annual subscription cost roughly $400-960 regardless of portfolio size. On a hypothetical $30,000 annual gross profit at 15% return, that's roughly 1-3% of gross profit consumed.

unCoded: $6,667 in year one (30% rate on first $6,667 of cumulative profit, 20% on the remaining $23,333). $6,000 from year two onwards (flat 20% on $30,000). Zero in unprofitable years.

What this pattern shows

Subscription pricing works structurally better for larger portfolios where fees become small percentages of returns. The pricing model becomes nearly invisible at $200,000+ portfolios.

Profit-sharing pricing works structurally better for:

  • Smaller portfolios where subscription drag is punishing

  • Difficult market years where strategies don't perform well

  • Long-term users where the 20% rate dominates after threshold crossing

  • Risk-averse traders who don't want to pay during validation periods

Neither model is universally better. Each works in different scenarios. The decision depends on portfolio size, expected return variability, and how you want platform costs to behave during difficult market conditions.

Who should choose what

The clean decision framework:

Choose 3Commas if:

  • You trade across multiple exchanges (Coinbase, Kraken, OKX, Bybit, etc.) and need broad coverage today

  • You want hosted automation without managing your own infrastructure

  • TradingView signal automation is central to your strategy approach

  • You value mobile experience parity with desktop

  • You want access to a strategy marketplace or copy trading

  • Your portfolio is large enough that subscription costs become a small percentage of returns

  • You prefer the established option with the longer track record

Choose unCoded if:

  • You trade Binance Spot seriously and want strategy depth beyond template platforms

  • Custody control over your own API keys matters more than setup convenience

  • You want pricing aligned with outcomes (zero fees in losing months)

  • You're willing to manage a VPS in exchange for the architectural benefits

  • Tick-based execution and advanced strategy features matter to your approach

  • Profit-sharing makes more sense than subscription drag for your portfolio size and expected returns

  • You want a platform structurally aligned with user profitability rather than retention

Choose neither if:

  • You're a beginner testing automated trading with zero commitment – Pionex's free exchange-native bots first

  • You specifically want leverage trading – neither platform serves that use case

  • You want a marketplace-driven copy trading product specifically – Wundertrading is more specialized for this

The honest summary

3Commas and unCoded represent two different philosophies about what an automated trading platform should be.

3Commas is a polished hosted product with subscription pricing, broad exchange coverage, and a mature ecosystem. It serves the segment of traders who want infrastructure-free deployment, established product maturity, and don't mind subscription pricing that doesn't scale with outcomes. For diverse multi-exchange traders with appropriately sized portfolios, 3Commas is a legitimate choice that won't lead you astray.

unCoded is a self-hosted crypto trading bot with profit-sharing pricing, deeper strategy customization, and architectural choices designed for long-term alignment between platform and user outcomes. It serves the segment of traders who have outgrown template-based products, want custody control, and prefer pricing that costs zero in difficult months. For serious Binance Spot traders willing to manage infrastructure, unCoded provides capabilities that subscription platforms structurally cannot match.

Neither option is universally better. Both serve their respective audiences well. The right choice depends entirely on which trade-offs match your actual situation: setup convenience vs. custody control, broad exchange coverage vs. Binance Spot depth, subscription predictability vs. outcome alignment, template strategies vs. customization depth.

Run the math for your specific portfolio size and expected return assumptions. Be honest about your operational comfort with self-hosting. Test the trial options where available. Choose whichever structural design matches your actual needs, not the one with the better marketing.

The platforms that survive five years of crypto market evolution are the ones whose users actually keep using them through bull markets, bear markets, and ranging conditions. That's a different selection criterion than which one has the most polished landing page.

For users evaluating unCoded specifically: the full backtest distribution across all tested tokens and multiple years is publicly available at uncoded.ch/backtesting, including years where strategies failed on the majority of tokens. Documentation at uncoded.ch/docs. For users evaluating 3Commas: current pricing and feature details at 3commas.io/pricing.

Choose whichever serves your actual situation. Both legitimate options exist for different reasons. That's the honest answer.
